Personal Assistance Services (PAS) Provider
Position Overview:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 is seeking qualified individuals to provide Personal Assistance Services (PAS) to eligible employees with targeted disabilities in accordance with Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act. This support ensures employees can fully perform their duties and participate in the workplace, aligning with EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment through inclusivity and equal opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one Personal Assistance Services (PAS) to EPA employees with targeted disabilities, as defined by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Assist with activities of daily living at the worksite, which may include:
Putting on or removing clothing or outerwear
Eating or drinking
Using the restroom
Pushing a wheelchair
Assisting with entering/exiting vehicles at the worksite
Support more than one employee as needed, without interference or delay in assistance.
Deliver basic administrative support when not performing PAS duties, including assistance in organizational areas.
Maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity of the individuals served.
Ensure compliance with EPA policies, accessibility standards, and reasonable accommodation regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Experience providing personal assistance or direct care services in a professional setting.
Ability to assist individuals with physical disabilities in a respectful and efficient manner.
Professional demeanor, punctuality, and reliability.
Strong interpersonal skills and discretion with sensitive information.
Must pass a background check and any additional federal security clearance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification or training in personal care, health assistance, or a related field.
Experience working in federal or public-sector environments.
Familiarity with the Rehabilitation Act and EEOC Section 501 regulations.
Eligibility:
Must be able to assist individuals with targeted disabilities who:
Are EPA employees,
Require PAS due to a qualifying disability,
Can perform essential job functions with the support of PAS and reasonable accommodations,
Do not pose a direct safety threat,
And for whom PAS would not cause undue hardship to the agency.
Place of Performance:
The primary work location is the EPA Region 5 Office at the Ralph H. Metcalfe Federal Building, Chicago, IL. The building features accessible entrances and facilities.
