Legionella Water Sample Collection Technician
Position Summary
The Sample Collection Technician is responsible for collecting environmental and water samples in accordance with regulatory standards and laboratory protocols. This role ensures accurate sampling, proper documentation, and safe handling of materials for laboratory analysis, including microbiological testing such as Legionella.
Key Responsibilities
Collect water samples from commercial, industrial, healthcare, and residential facilities according to established protocols
Follow CDC, EPA, and state guidelines for Legionella and other environmental sampling procedures
Maintain strict chain-of-custody documentation
Properly label, preserve, and transport samples to certified laboratories
Perform onsite measurements (temperature, pH, chlorine residual, etc.)
Ensure compliance with safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Maintain sampling equipment and ensure proper calibration
Communicate professionally with clients during site visits
Prepare field reports and submit accurate documentation in a timely manner
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or related field preferred)
Experience in environmental or water sampling preferred
Knowledge of Legionella sampling protocols is a plus
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and travel to client sites
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Comfortable working in mechanical rooms and facility environments
