This role is centered around incident triage, monitoring, and resolution across cloud-based applications and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in AWS services, cloud monitoring, and infrastructure troubleshooting, along with strong leadership and communication skills.
This position is fully onsite in Reston, VA and requires participation in an on-call rotation, including availability for night and weekend shifts as needed.

Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior AWS Engineer to join a dynamic 24/7/365 operations environment. This role is centered around incident triage, monitoring, and resolution across cloud-based applications and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in AWS services, cloud monitoring, and infrastructure troubleshooting, along with strong leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and resolve high-priority incidents in a mission-critical operations environment using standardized incident response processes.
- Lead and participate in technical triage calls, guiding troubleshooting efforts across application and infrastructure layers.
- Monitor and maintain production environments deployed in AWS, identifying and resolving service interruptions proactively.
- Use tools such as CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Splunk, SolarWinds, MoogSoft, Extrahop, Netcool, and others to detect, investigate, and resolve incidents.
- Conduct deep-dive transaction tracing and log analysis to determine root causes of application and infrastructure issues.
- Maintain dashboards and alerting systems, identifying trends, performance bottlenecks, and systemic issues.
- Collaborate across technical teams to coordinate incident response and communicate real-time updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), documentation, reporting, and implementation of operational improvements.
- Lead follow-up technical review meetings for critical incidents and contribute to preventive and corrective action plans.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and the development of automated monitoring and diagnostic tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of IT experience, with a minimum of 5 years in cloud operations and AWS infrastructure support.
- Hands-on expertise with AWS services including but not limited to: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Route53, ELB, Aurora, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, WAF, ECS, Redshift.
- Experience with performance engineering, observability tools, and infrastructure monitoring in cloud environments.
- Strong technical troubleshooting abilities with a methodical approach to incident investigation and resolution.
- Skilled in leading incident triage sessions and clearly communicating technical issues to diverse audiences.
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate or higher certification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working in highly regulated or enterprise production environments.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry (OpenTel) and modern observability platforms.
- Middleware troubleshooting experience on UNIX/Linux systems.
- Knowledge of enterprise protocols including DNS, LDAP, SMTP, SSL, FTP, and load balancing.
- Participation in an on-call support rotation is mandatory.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts including nights and weekends when required.
