Job Opportunity: Food Service Worker
Location: Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), Washington. Position Type: Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Non-Personal Services Contract. Mission: Join our team supporting the Nutrition Care Division (NCD) dining facility to provide essential food services for hospital personnel, guests, and patients (including inpatient and outpatient support). All services must be provided with the highest regard for patient dignity and in accordance with established standards and ethics.Key Responsibilities
The Food Service Worker is responsible for comprehensive food preparation, service, sanitation, and inventory tasks within the NCD dining facility.Food Service and Preparation:
- Prepare and serve menu items for patient meal service, adhering strictly to the provided production schedule.
- Set up serving lines and self-service areas for hot and cold items. This includes arranging glasses, silverware, dishes, trays, napkins, condiments, salads, desserts, bread, and beverages.
- Provide Food Service support for other needs, such as catering events, as required by the production schedule.
- Operate, break down, and clean all electrical equipment used for food preparation.
- Clean kitchen equipment, including worktables, sinks, and refrigerators.
- Remove dishes and trays from dining areas and thoroughly wash tables, counters, and floors.
- Manage the dishwashing area, which involves separating food waste/trash, loading and operating dishwashers and silverware washing machines, and storing sanitized items.
- Maintain accurate temperature charts and cleaning checklists for all food prep, storage, serving, and seating areas.
- Stock and monitor daily inventory levels in designated work areas.
- Participate in mandatory quarterly and annual training requirements.
- Maintain a high level of patient and customer satisfaction, aiming for professionalism and the utmost customer service while interacting with colleagues, patients, and customers.
Minimum Qualifications (Must-Haves)
To be eligible for this position, contract personnel (CPs) must meet the following requirements:- Experience: Must have one (1) year of experience as a food service worker. This experience can include work in fast food restaurants, cafeterias, or food concession stands.
- Life Support Certification: Must possess and maintain current course completion documentation for Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) through an American Heart Association approved training program.
- Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with all parties and healthcare providers.
- Soft Skills: Must demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity to relate constructively to patients across the lifespan and various backgrounds.
- Computer Literacy: If the position requires computer use, personnel must be computer literate.
- Education/Licensure: No formal education, licensure, or certification is required for the position beyond the specified BLS and experience.
Schedule, Uniform, and Security Requirements
Schedule:- Work is performed in the Nutrition Care Division, which is open from 0500 to 1900, 7 days a week, including weekends and federal holidays.
- Personnel shall work rotating 8-hour shifts (e.g., 0500–1330, 0600–1430, 1030–1900). A 30-minute uncompensated lunch break is authorized per shift.
- Personnel are required to report to work as scheduled, even during emergencies, disasters, or adverse weather conditions.
- Uniform: The contractor provides uniform shirts. Employees must wear black slacks (jeans are not permitted) and closed-toe, slip-resistant, comfortable work shoes to ensure safety and support during long hours.
- Conduct: Must conform to standards of conduct consistent with Government personnel, adhere to the MTF’s smoke-free campus policy, and comply with all hospital policies concerning general safety and infection control.
- Successful applicants must complete in-processing procedures at MAMC.
- A local criminal background check must be completed by the MAMC Provost Marshal prior to starting work.
