Catholic Religious Education Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator is responsible for providing Catholic religious education opportunities at Altus Air Force Base. The Coordinator ensures that programs adhere to guidelines provided by the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), U.S. Air Force Instructions, and Altus AFB Chapel Operating Instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Catholic Youth of the Chapel (CYOC), Adult Religious Education (RE) programs, and sacramental preparation (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation).
File all sacramental records with the Archdiocese for Military Services.
Recruit, train, and coordinate teachers, volunteers, and substitute teachers.
Ensure compliance with child and youth protection standards, background checks, and training.
Track and report attendance and maintain records for all RE students and staff.
Maintain an inventory of educational supplies and coordinate purchases with the Catholic Chaplain.
Develop and publicize annual RE calendar, events, and special seasonal programs.
Maintain both hard copy and electronic continuity files of all RE activities.
Coordinate facility use and ensure classrooms are set up and secured after use.
Attend quarterly meetings with the Catholic Chaplain to review program status and performance.
Required Qualifications:
Religious Affiliation: Must be a practicing Roman Catholic, confirmed, and regularly attending Mass at Altus AFB.
Education and Certification:
Certified Catechist by AMS or
3–5 years of Catholic Religious Education teaching experience or
2 years’ experience as a Religious Education Coordinator.
A master’s degree in theology or religious studies may substitute for Advanced Catechist Certification.
Training:
Current Youth Protection Training certification (Boy Scouts USA or Dallas Charter standards).
Completion of Air Force-required training and General EMS Awareness training.
Technical Skills: Minimum 3 years' experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Internet, and Email.
Security: Must pass a National Agency Check and Installation Records Check.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work in a pluralistic, multicultural military environment.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Experience working with U.S. military populations preferred.
Additional Information:
Contractor presence is required during Sunday Mass and while Religious Education is conducted (approximately 40 Sundays/year, September–May).
Teleworking or limited access to office space may be necessary.
Extended absences (more than three days) require two-week notice and approval of a qualified substitute.
