Position Title: Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) Physician
Location: Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF), Chinle, Arizona
Type: Contract (Non-Personal Services)
Schedule: Full-Time (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.), with on-call responsibilities


Position Overview:

We seek qualified OB/GYN Physicians to provide inpatient and outpatient care to the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive medical services, including preventative care, diagnosis, treatment, surgical procedures, and consultations. This is a non-personal services contract, ensuring flexibility and independence in the role.


Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Provide comprehensive medical services for OB/GYN patients, including preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up care.
  • Conduct outpatient clinics, review patient history, perform physical examinations, and manage treatment plans.
  • Deliver inpatient care, including labor and delivery management, and perform rounds in units such as Labor & Delivery and Obstetric Care Unit.
  • Perform major surgical operations, minor outpatient surgeries, and spontaneous and operative deliveries.
  • Provide emergency medical services and definitive management for cases not requiring referral.

Collaboration and Consultation:

  • Work closely with allied health professionals, such as community health nurses, social workers, and health educators.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to other physicians on complex OB/GYN cases.
  • Refer patients to specialized care as needed and ensure timely follow-up.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate, clear, and timely medical records using CCHCF's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission (JC) standards and other applicable regulations.

Cultural Sensitivity:

  • Incorporate cultural awareness into patient care, respecting Navajo traditions, ceremonies, and values.
  • Complete mandatory cultural awareness training during orientation.

Qualifications:

Education & Training:

  • Completed U.S. residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Licensure & Certification:

  • Valid, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
  • Current DEA license with Schedule II-V authority.
  • Valid certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).

Experience:

  • Minimum of six months of recent OB/GYN practice.
  • No lapse in practice exceeding six months before assignment.

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to Navajo traditions.
  • Basic IT proficiency for EHR system use.
  • Ability to pass Level I and II background checks as per federal requirements.
  • Compliance with immunization and health screening standards, including Hepatitis A/B, MMR, Varicella, TB, Influenza, and Tdap.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.
  • On-call duty:
    • Weeknights: 5:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.
    • Weekends: 24-hour coverage.
  • Overtime and rotating shifts as required.
