Unit Definition: One worship service, rehearsal, or planning meeting (up to two hours per unit)
Position Overview:
The Protestant Contemporary Music Director is responsible for leading and directing the music ministry for the Protestant Contemporary Worship Service at [Installation Name]. This individual will collaborate with the Senior Protestant Chaplain to plan, rehearse, and execute music that supports and enhances the spiritual worship experience of the congregation. The role includes music direction, team leadership, rehearsal coordination, and administrative tasks related to worship music planning and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide musical leadership at Protestant Contemporary Worship Services, including Sunday services and special events.
- Coordinate weekly with the Senior Protestant Chaplain or designee to select appropriate music in alignment with the vision and flow of the worship service.
- Conduct weekly rehearsals with the Worship Team (not on the same day as service).
- Distribute selected music to team members at least 24 hours before each rehearsal to allow for individual preparation.
- Direct, arrange, and produce music selections appropriate to the style of Contemporary Protestant worship.
- Lead and recruit a diverse team of volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists.
- Assist in the setup and teardown of musical equipment before and after each service.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before rehearsals and 30 minutes before worship services or special events.
- Maintain a written log of all work performed under the contract.
Required Qualifications:
- Resume and Video Submission: A resume and a 1–3-minute video demonstrating vocal performance is required.
- References: Two (2) references who can verify previous experience in music ministry.
- Faith and Worship Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of the Protestant Christian faith and experience with Contemporary worship traditions.
- Worship Planning Experience: Ability to plan and organize worship sets, lead music teams, and coordinate with chapel staff.
- Musical Ability:
- Ability to read sheet music (preferred but not required).
- Play keyboard or guitar proficiently.
- Proficient vocal performance and ability to lead congregational singing.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Familiarity with operating sound systems and music projection tools.
- Use of worship software such as CCLI Song Select, Song Show Plus, or similar.
- Team Building: Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and coordinate volunteer music teams across age groups.
Vocal Proficiency Evaluation (Required):
Applicants must achieve a minimum of 24 out of 30 points based on the following criteria:

Instrumental Proficiency (Bonus – Not Required):
Applicants who demonstrate instrumental skill (guitar or keyboard) may earn up to 5 bonus points:

General Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties under the supervision of the Senior Protestant Chaplain.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and Air Force regulations and chapel policies.
- Collaborate respectfully with staff and volunteers across denominations during ecumenical activities.
- Complete a successful background check per DoDI 1402.5 (Criminal History for Childcare).
- Adhere to DoD 5400.7-R and FOIA regulations regarding handling and safeguarding information.
- Report security or safety concerns immediately to the appropriate government authority.
- Maintain proper key and equipment control, ensuring no duplication or unauthorized access.
Hours and Compensation:
- Services will be compensated per unit, in accordance with the Non-Personal Services Agreement.
- A unit is defined as one worship service, rehearsal, or planning meeting, with a maximum of 112 units annually.
- Schedule to be coordinated with the Senior Protestant Chaplain or designee.
