Job Summary: The Facilities Journeyman Technician is responsible for providing skilled
maintenance, repair, and operational support at the Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center (IRC) in
Honolulu, Hawaii. This full-time position involves working closely with the existing facilities team
to ensure the smooth functioning of all building systems and to execute assigned projects
effectively. The technician will report directly to the NWS PR Facilities Engineering Branch Chief.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance and Repair:
o Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of building systems,
including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems at the IRC.
o Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with building systems and equipment, ensuring
timely and effective repairs.
o Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, ensuring minimal
disruption to operations.
2. General Building Operations:
o Conduct preventative maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of building
systems and reduce downtime.
o Monitor and maintain building automation systems, adjusting settings as needed
to optimize performance.
o Assist in the planning and execution of facility upgrades and renovations.
3. Project Execution:
o Work with the existing facilities teams to execute assigned projects, ensuring they
are completed on time and within budget.
o Provide technical expertise and support to the team, helping to solve complex
maintenance and operational issues.
o Document project progress and outcomes, reporting to the Facilities Engineering
Branch Chief.
4. Safety and Compliance:
o Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while performing maintenance
tasks.
o Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards in all work
performed.
o Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
o Coordinate with the NWS PR Facilities Engineering Branch Chief and other team
members to prioritize tasks and ensure smooth operations.
o Communicate effectively with external vendors and contractors when specialized
services are required.
o Provide recommendations for improvements to facility operations and
maintenance practices.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in a relevant trade is
preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
Proficiency in multiple trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building
maintenance.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a
team.
Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor work and confined
spaces.
Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
Work Environment: This position will be based at the Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center (IRC)
on Ford Island in Honolulu, Hawaii. The technician may be required to work occasional
evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
