Job Summary
We are hiring a professional and qualified ASL Interpreter to support government personnel with hearing disabilities at Naval Station Everett (NSE). This role provides essential interpretation services in person and via virtual platforms and ensures effective communication in a wide range of technical, administrative, and compliance-related settings.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver face-to-face and remote sign language interpretation for deaf employees at NSE
Support communications during staff meetings, trainings, briefings, conferences, and project site visits
Utilize secure platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams for remote interpreting (VRI)
Interpret using ASL, PSE, Signed English, and/or Tactile Interpretation, depending on client needs
Translate spoken/written English into sign language and vice versa
Understand and use terminology in engineering, environmental compliance, and military administration
Uphold the highest standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism
Respond to urgent requests for interpretation in case of emergencies or scheduling conflicts
Minimum Qualifications
Certified by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or
Minimum of 5 years of ASL interpretation experience in professional or government environments
Demonstrated fluency in both receptive and expressive sign language
Working knowledge of military acronyms and environmental terminology
Ability to function independently with no supervision from the Government
Must comply with local, state, and federal interpreter certification requirements
Preferred Skills
Military or federal government experience preferred
Experience with Deaf-Blind clients or Tactile interpretation
Strong adaptability and ability to work with multiple departments
Work Schedule
Services may be required weekly, monthly, or for special events
Must be flexible for both on-site and remote sessions
