Position Overview:
As part of the New York State HBITS initiative, this role focuses on modernizing legacy tax systems using technologies such as CARTS and Correspondence. This position is essential to upgrading critical infrastructure with up-to-date programming and architectural tools.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level analysis, development support, and reengineering for systems using COBOL, JCL, and SQL on z/OS platforms.
- Help developers working with legacy mainframe technologies by offering guidance and support.
- Analyze and tune system performance, solve issues, and plan for future capacity needs.
- Streamline and manage z/OS software updates and maintenance processes.
- Design and manage data synchronization methods across multiple database systems and platforms.
- Coordinate data handling between z/OS and LUW DB2, data warehouses, and tools like Cognos, Identity Insight, and DataStage.
- Serve as the main point of contact between data teams, business users, and developers to ensure performance is considered throughout.
- Develop cost-effective solutions to business needs using database designs and coding best practices.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years: Candidate is able to provide guidance to large teams and/or has extensive industry experience and is considered at the top of his/her field.
- 7 years experience training and mentoring staff in Java based technologies which includes design, development, maintenance and end user support.
- 7 years experience with Java programming in an eclipse-based development environment.
- 4 years experience with JavaScript programming in a VS Code based development environment.
- 4 years experience with GIT or GitLab for Source Control.
- 4 years experience with Maven for Dependency Management.
- 4 years experience with JSON schema design.
- 7 years experience with browser developer tools provided by Edge and Chrome.
