Physical Therapist
Position Overview
San Felipe Pueblo Elementary School is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to provide evaluation, direct therapy, and consultative services to students in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, and 25 CFR Part 39 (ISEP guidelines). The PT will work closely with educators, parents, and the IEP team to ensure students’ motor needs are met in the least restrictive environment.
This is a contract position requiring a minimum of one on-site day per week, with scheduling and hours based on student needs and IEP service minutes. Services may extend to summer school and extended year as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluation & Assessment
Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations for referred students.
Review and summarize student records, including psycho-educational evaluations, academic history, and relevant medical data.
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to nondiscriminatory assessment practices.
Prepare detailed, confidential evaluation reports within 2 weeks of service delivery.
Therapy Services
Deliver individualized or group PT services based on IEP goals and placement team decisions.
Adapt therapy strategies for cultural, linguistic, and developmental appropriateness.
Maintain detailed records of therapy sessions, student progress, and attendance.
Collaboration & Meetings
Consult regularly with special education staff and classroom teachers to support carryover strategies and integration of motor therapy in educational settings.
Attend IEP meetings to help develop student goals and document therapy needs.
Engage with parents/guardians to address student progress and concerns as schedules permit.
Documentation & Reporting
Submit monthly invoices and service logs including duration of sessions and mileage (as applicable).
Provide 4-week progress reports for each student receiving therapy.
Maintain logs for sign-in/out and adhere to the approved weekly schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution in Physical Therapy.
Licensure & Certification
Current Physical Therapist license in the state of New Mexico.
Certification by the State Department of Education.
Emergency, provisional, or conditional certificates may be accepted if state-issued.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
Experience working with Native American communities preferred.
Other Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must successfully pass a federal background check, including clearance by the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and the Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency (DCSA).
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must comply with BIE, DOI, and school-specific IT security protocols—personal devices are not permitted on the school network.
Work Environment & Schedule
Onsite Only: No remote work permitted.
Schedule: One day per week minimum, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; exact days flexible based on student need.
School Calendar: Services follow the school calendar; PT is not expected to work on holidays, snow days, or tribal festivity days.
Lunch Break: 30 minutes (non-billable).
Must accommodate school events such as IEP meetings, parent conferences, professional development, etc.
