Janitor / Housekeeping Technician (Healthcare Environment)
GD Resources is seeking reliable and detail-oriented Janitor / Housekeeping Technicians to provide healthcare-grade environmental cleaning services at VA medical, residential, and hospitality-style facilities. This position plays a critical role in infection prevention, safety, and maintaining a clean, professional environment for Veterans, families, staff, and visitors. All services must meet VA requirements, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and national environmental cleaning standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform daily, periodic, and deep cleaning in healthcare and residential settings
Clean, disinfect, and maintain:
Floors (sweeping, dust mopping, damp mopping, scrubbing, burnishing, carpet extraction)
Restrooms and showers (toilets, urinals, sinks, walls, floors, grout, and dispensers)
Offices, patient waiting areas, lounges, corridors, stairwells, elevators, and common spaces
Glass, mirrors, doors, walls, light fixtures (up to 12 feet), vents, stainless steel, and furniture
Follow infection control protocols, including immediate cleanup of blood or bodily fluids
Use VA-approved disinfectants and adhere to one-time-use microfiber and mop requirements
Empty, clean, and sanitize trash receptacles; transport waste and cardboard to designated compactors
Maintain restrooms and common areas fully stocked with required supplies
Perform hotel-style cleaning at the Fisher House and residential-style cleaning at the Domiciliary
Respond promptly to spills, water leaks, emergency cleanups, and outbreak-related disinfection
Assist with high-level disinfection during infectious disease outbreaks (e.g., Norovirus, C. diff, Flu)
Use wet floor signage and maintain safe walkways at all times
Report maintenance issues, damage, or safety concerns to supervisors
Maintain professional conduct and customer service consistent with VA standards
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Prior janitorial or housekeeping experience preferred (healthcare experience strongly preferred)
Knowledge of infection control and safe cleaning practices
Ability to follow detailed cleaning schedules, checklists, and safety procedures
Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting
Professional appearance and demeanor
Additional Requirements
Must pass VA background check and complete required VA training
Must comply with HIPAA, privacy, safety, and security requirements
No alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or firearms while on duty
Must wear contractor-provided uniform and closed-toe shoes
Must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts
