American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter

GD Resources LLC is seeking certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide in-person interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Federal employees at the NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego (FLCSD). Interpreters will facilitate effective communication between employees and management across a variety of meetings, training sessions, and events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality in-person ASL interpretation for meetings, town halls, classroom trainings, and other events, ranging from 1 to 8 hours.

  • Support ad-hoc and short-notice requests, responding promptly to meet FLCSD mission requirements.

  • Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing employees and hearing participants.

  • Work at locations within the greater San Diego area, primarily on Naval Base San Diego.

  • Notify contractor and Government promptly if unable to fulfill a requested service to allow alternate arrangements.

  • Adhere to all professional standards, policies, and confidentiality requirements.

  • Participate in recurring or emergent events, including small or large meetings, town halls, cultural events, and training sessions.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold and maintain one of the following certifications:

  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC) – any level (NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master)

  • Certificate of Interpreting (CI)

  • Certificate of Transliterating (CT)

  • Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)

  • National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level III, IV, or V

  • Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Certification Program

Skills & Competencies:

  • Fluency in ASL and English

  • Strong understanding of linguistic and cultural nuances in Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities

  • Ability to provide accurate interpretation in high-stakes and sensitive settings

  • Flexibility to work short-notice assignments

  • Professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality

Schedule & Hours:

  • Assignments typically provided with a minimum of 10 days’ notice.

  • Work may occur Monday through Friday during standard hours, with occasional off-hour or emergent events.

  • Government will provide at least 24 hours notice for cancellations; less than 24-hour notice incurs a one-hour cancellation fee.
