Position Overview:
The VA Central Iowa Health Care System seeks a skilled Nurse Practitioner (Nephrology) with significant clinical experience to provide on-site nephrology services. The position involves direct patient care, administrative tasks, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to veterans.
Key Responsibilities:
Outpatient Care:
- Conduct two four-hour clinics per week (Tuesday and Thursday).
- Evaluate and treat patients with nephrology conditions in an outpatient setting.
- Provide patient education and coordinate follow-up care.
Inpatient Support and On-Call Coverage:
- Collaborate with the nephrologist to support inpatient care and dialysis management.
- Be available to support on-call coverage as necessary.
Administrative Duties:
- Document all patient interactions and care plans in the VA electronic health record system (CPRS).
- Participate in quality improvement and staff meetings as required.
- Assist in quality assurance and reporting tasks related to patient care.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- At least five years of direct clinical experience in nephrology.
- Active NP license in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
Competencies:
- Proficient in managing chronic kidney disease, dialysis care, and other nephrology-related conditions.
- Skilled in patient education, care planning, and coordination.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (preferably VA CPRS).
Work Schedule:
- Clinics: Tuesdays and Thursdays (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM).
- On-call support as necessary during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
