About the Role
The Montana Army National Guard (MTARNG) is seeking a Board-Certified Occupational Medicine Physician (BCOMP) to provide high-quality occupational health medical services for federal technicians working in environments with potential exposure to physical, chemical, biological, or radiological hazards.
In this critical role, you will lead the delivery of job-related medical surveillance examinations, qualification evaluations, and occupational health consultations to ensure compliance with OSHA and Department of Defense (DoD) standards. You’ll help monitor and protect the long-term health and fitness of the MTARNG workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct and/or supervise job-related medical surveillance and occupational health evaluations for federal technicians.
Oversee pre-placement, return-to-work, fitness-for-duty, and termination medical exams.
Lead hazard-based surveillance assessments (e.g., respiratory, hearing, vision, chemical exposure).
Provide medical recommendations regarding job placement, accommodation, or exposure limitations.
Review and sign off on all exams and medical determinations as the supervising Board-Certified Occupational Medicine Physician.
Maintain medical documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Operate within OSHA, NIOSH, AAOHN, and DoD clinical and ethical standards.
Special Qualifications
Required:
Board Certification in Occupational Medicine (ABOEM) or equivalent.
Active, unrestricted medical license in the United States (Montana licensure preferred or obtainable).
National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) certification (or eligibility).
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in occupational health or military medical surveillance programs.
Familiarity with federal regulations including 29 CFR 1910, AR 40-5, and AR 40-501.
Strong documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) experience.
Additional Certifications (preferred or required by function):
Audiometry (CAOHC certification).
Pulmonary Function Testing (NIOSH or Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist).
Chest X-ray interpretation (NIOSH B-reader certified or supervision of such staff).
Phlebotomy and lab testing certification (ASCP).
HIPAA-compliant and able to complete annual privacy/security training.
Ideal Candidate Will Also Have:
Strong clinical judgment and ability to make placement decisions based on exposure risks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with military, government, or industrial health programs.
Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (nurses, physician assistants, technicians).
Familiarity with electronic health records and federal documentation systems.
Additional Information
This is a non-personal services contract. The provider functions independently, without federal supervision, in the medical decision-making process.
Period of performance is 12 months from award, with potential for annual renewal.
Travel to various MTARNG facilities may be required (reimbursable per contract terms).
Contractor staff may include licensed NPs or PAs for exam execution; however, a BCOMP must supervise and review all final determinations.
