About the Role

Located in the heart of the Texas Medical Centerthe client offers an exciting opportunity to join its Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI) Operating Room team.
This position is responsible for providing skilled perioperative patient care through the proper use of surgical equipment and instrumentation. The Certified Surgical Technologist functions as a scrub assistant to the surgeon, ensuring safe, efficient, and sterile operative procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association

Experience:

  • 2+ years of CV (open heart) experience preferred

  • New Graduate: <1 year

  • Surg Tech I: 1 year

  • Surg Tech II: 2–4 years

  • Surg Tech III: 5+ years


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform as first scrub in assigned surgical specialty areas.

  • Prepare and verify availability of supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to surgical procedures.

  • Apply principles of aseptic technique and maintain a sterile field.

  • Support case readiness and room turnover to maintain OR efficiency.

  • Provide safe, high-quality care to patients while ensuring compliance with all Memorial Hermann policies and standards.

  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Participate in ongoing professional growth, mandatory education, and skill competency programs.

  • Demonstrate Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences for patients and colleagues.
