Position Overview:
The Payment Programs team supports legacy systems that handle financial operations, including mainframe and distributed components. As part of our client's modernization efforts, there is an ongoing transitioning from these systems to modern tech stacks while reducing our mainframe footprint. We are seeking a z/OS / Java Developer to aid in maintaining and modernizing these systems, including OMAS, FMRS, Uniform Allowance, and EAPS, with a focus on mainframe and Java integration.

We are seeking a z/OS / Java Developer to aid in maintaining and modernizing these systems, including OMAS, FMRS, Uniform Allowance, and EAPS, with a focus on mainframe and Java integration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing support for legacy mainframe systems while they are being modernized.
- Contribute to the migration of mainframe systems to modern tech stacks, with a focus on minimizing disruption and maintaining operational continuity.
- Collaborate with Java developers to integrate Java applications with mainframe systems, ensuring seamless interoperability.
- Develop and maintain mainframe scripts for automation and data manipulation using REXX and SAS.
- Work with stakeholders to assess migration risks and develop strategies for resource allocation and system transitions.
- Perform debugging, problem resolution, and performance tuning for both mainframe and Java-based applications.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols, including RACF, and contribute to the safe migration of data between systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mainframe development, including proficiency with IBM z/OS, JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and MQ.
- Basic experience with Java, especially for applications that interface with mainframe systems; familiarity with JZOS is required.
- Familiarity with IBM JavaClassGenerator for working with sequential files and enabling Java-mainframe integration.
- Experience with REXX and SAS scripting for process automation and data manipulation.
- Prior experience with mainframe migration projects or modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with mainframe communication tools such as CICS and MQ, and security protocols, including RACF.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, MQ, and CICS.
- Basic understanding of Java programming to support integration and migration activities.
- Proficiency in JZOS and IBM JavaClassGenerator for mainframe-Java interoperability.
- Expertise in REXX and SAS scripting for automation and data manipulation.
- Knowledge of best practices in mainframe migration, risk assessment, and resource management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with DevOps practices on mainframes, including tools such as Jenkins and Git.
- Familiarity with MQ integration with Apache Kafka.
- Prior experience with performance tuning on mainframe systems and Java applications.
